2017 State Election: Achievements and Committments
/Mark’s achievements in the Cleveland district:
- $18 million Emergency Department upgrade of Redland Hospital including new Paediatric, Short Stay and Mental Health sections
- $999,000 to signalise and improve lighting at the intersection of Bloomfield and Bay Streets
- Domestic Violence victim support funding for Cleveland Court and other local DV services
- Construction of Cleveland Ambulance Station
- 450 additional seats on peak time train services on Cleveland Line
- $1 million upgrade to Cleveland Station facilities
- Palliative Care Service at Redland Hospital
- Upgrade of Agnes Street intersection in Birkdale
- Increase in car parking at Redland Hospital (more to do)
- Improved bikeways at multiple locations in Cleveland district
- $3 million Bayview State School hall in Thornlands
- $9-10 million Cleveland High Year 7 building
- Installation of flashing lights in school zones for 80% of schools across Cleveland District (final few schools to go)
- Capital equipment grants of over $130,000 for 5 different educational institutions
- The transition of local state schools to Independent public schools for greater autonomy, including Ormiston State School and Cleveland District State High School
- $20 million for North Stradbroke Island’s Economic Transition Strategy (more needed)
- Wellington Point boat ramp upgrading and resurfacing
- Cleveland William Street new boat ramp
- Cleveland William Street floating walkways and channel dredging
- $600,000 to upgrade the North Stradbroke Island Gorge Walk
- New boats and engines for local Volunteer Marine Rescue (Straddie and Cleveland)
- Artificial reef at Turner Reef, Harry Atkinson, Peel and Coochie Reefs
- Breakwater wall at Cleveland William Street boat ramps
- Delivered the end of single use plastics to protect marine life
Mark, as part of an LNP Government, commits in the next term to:
- Delivering for local boaties and fishers with $350,000 to install artificial reef off Wellington Point
- Fighting to deliver an upgrade to the Cleveland Fire Station
- Delivering a new multi-purpose hall and indoor sports auditorium at the growing Cleveland District State High School
- Fighting to upgrade the Cleveland Watch House and deliver additional frontline police officers to the region
- Installation of 40km/h flashing lights at St Mary MacKillop Primary School to improve safety
- Fighting to deliver the Redland Aquatic Centre and Emergency Precinct
- Fighting for an intensive care unit at the Redland Hospital to be considered by an independent Hospitals Planning Commission
- $20 million (of the total $45 million) congestion busting investment to dual-lane the Thornlands section of Cleveland-Redland Bay Road
- Securing an extra $10 million (taking the total to $30 million) to help deliver jobs and economic development on North Stradbroke Island following the Government’s decision to shut down sand mining
- Improving traffic congestion and safety for motorists, students and local residents with a $5 million commitment (taking the total to $8.5 million) to upgrade the Shore and Wellington Streets intersection
- Fighting to replace two school buildings at Ormiston State School
- $25,000 to secure the future of Donald Simpson Centre for Cleveland District seniors
